Cynerio is a healthcare IoT security company. Recently, they announced a new model that detects and responds to IoT threats, something that is meant to help hospitals to respond to the rising threat to their networks. It stores information that acts as forensics to see what happened and recover from the attack. According to a recent study, a quarter of hospitals have suffered from breaches that used their IoT devices to enter the network. Without the response and detection, IoT devices have proven to be high cybersecurity risks, with shutting them off being the only guaranteed way of remediating the risk being to turn off the devices. This is not a practical approach given how they are used to help better treat patients, with many hospitals having hundreds of IoT devices. The new module responds to threats immediately, making sure that devices remain connected and secure. It even allows for devices to be segmented to minimize how much of a threat attacks can pose, making it far more difficult to strike all IoT devices outside of a particular segment. This may also be a way to better protect patients as the rise in attacks (particularly ransomeware attacks) has a correlation to a higher mortality.
