With the first quarter of 2024 behind us, Case Management Society of America (CMSA) members have been busy engaging with many valuable opportunities to expand their skill sets, making an impact on Capitol Hill, earning continuing education credits, boosting their resumes and learning from and supporting their case management peers.
CMSA Virtual Hill Visits Program: The CMSA 2024 Virtual Hill Visits took place the week of March 4, 2024, with 34 congressional meetings scheduled with 15 representative offices and 19 senate offices. During this advocacy event, CMSA members met virtually with members of Congress and/or their health policy staff from their respective areas of the country to educate them about the importance of case managers and their role in improving patient health outcomes. This important event helps to elevate the professional practice of case management and the immediate needs of case managers nationwide.
CMSA Case Management Boot Camp: Over 2.5 days in March, case managers from around the country met in Nashville to build their case management skills and experience. Attendees took part in an immersive and focused training program to grow and enhance their skills through a three-part structure filled with hands-on case studies for real-world experience.
Valuable Webinar/CE Events: Each month, CMSA offers at least one educational webinar free to the membership. Here’s the line-up so far for 2024 (now available in the CMSA Educational Resource Library):
How It Started vs. How It’s Going – The Effect of the Public Health Emergency on Healthcare Today: The public health emergency resulted in many temporary changes and exceptions to how healthcare was managed. Now that the public health emergency has ended, healthcare must once again redefine itself by transitioning back to the traditional healthcare market. A panel of experts in case management discussed the post-pandemic status of healthcare and the changes that have occurred or are in the process of occurring including insurance, population health, access to care, telehealth and more.
The Day Everything Changed: We have all experienced moments in our professional development that have had a profound and lasting impact on us. Rarely is there a globally shared experience such as we all faced through the COVID pandemic. It brought about changes in healthcare none of us could have imagined just five years ago. Faced with soaring vacancy rates among staff and the growing threat of more staff resignations, decisions needed to be made and made fast. In the span of six weeks, Kaiser Permanente of Washington (KPWA) shifted from an in-person, inpatient model of care management to a virtual care delivery platform.
The Case Manager’s Guide to Antimicrobial Stewardship: According to Dr. Tedros Ghebryesus of the World Health Organization, “As we gather more evidence, we see more clearly and more worryingly how fast we are losing critically important antimicrobial medicines all over the world.” Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is increasingly common and is primarily due to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics. The only way to slow the resistance to antibiotics – to practice and reinforce antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) – is covered.
CMSA Educational Resource Library: CMSA’s Educational Resource Library (ERL) makes earning continuing education credits and keeping up to date on trending topics and best practices easier than ever. Members take full advantage of the web-based, dedicated learning platform featuring over 150 continuing education courses free to members on a daily basis.
Inaugural ISIG Networking Meeting: The CMSA International Special Interest Group (ISIG) offers a valuable platform for case managers worldwide, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing on diverse topics relevant to international case management. Through its first quarterly networking session, nearly 60 participants engaged in discussions about country-specific processes, standards, training methodologies and practical tips garnered from case managers globally.
CMSA Chapters, Committees and Task Groups: With 17 boards and committees and nearly 50 CMSA Chapters focused on fulfilling the mission of CMSA, the value of the benefits offered nationally and locally continues to grow. With over 300 dedicated member volunteers engaged in executing the strategic plan of the association, from education to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, CMSA is the premier professional association for case management.
Membership Referral Program: CMSA members engaged in the 2024 Membership Referral Campaign to help build membership and recognize those who support the growth of the association.
CMSA Today and the CMSA Blog: Over 25 authors have contributed to the body of knowledge found in CMSA’s official publication and online blog, offering resources, education and perspective necessary for all case managers.
Case Management Salary & Trends Survey: Almost 3,000 case managers participated in the recent Salary & Trends survey conducted jointly by CMSA and the Case Management Institute (CMI). A full report containing relevant data to further support you and the profession will be available in April.
2024 CMSA Annual Conference & Expo: Case managers everywhere are making plans to join us in historic Providence, Rhode Island, June 4-7, 2024, for an impressive educational line-up, valuable networking, vendor interaction and lots of fun! Register now at www.cmsa.org.
